Conceived and founded by Orlando restaurateurs Jason & Sue Chin, The Osprey Tavern proudly opened its doors in the heart of Baldwin Park in March of 2015. The Chins are familiar faces on the local scene, as they also own and operate Baldwin Park favorite Seito Sushi, a beloved staple of the neighborhood for over ten years. With their second venture at Osprey, the couple brings their adventurous spirit and passion for their craft back home once again, in a stunningly assured take on classic American fare that marks a wonderful new step in Orlando’s culinary evolution.
Both strikingly bold while at the same time utterly familiar, Sue’s eye for design creates a warm atmosphere in keeping with the age-old feel of a true tavern. The open layout of the bar and kitchen and elegant nuances of the decor all contribute to a festive, convivial place for dining and socializing.
The cuisine at Osprey reflects a love of brilliant ingredients showcased at their simplest and most exuberant. The focus is on quality that’s congruent with its seasonal surroundings. The kitchen loves to capture vibrant flavors that express themselves just as easily in classic dishes as in creative spins on old favorites.
A Michigan native Chef Elek (eh-lehk) was fascinated with cooking from an early age and drew inspiration from watching Graham Kerr's Kitchen. After rising through the ranks of local restaurants he decided to move to Florida to attend Le Cordon Bleu. Graduating at the top of his class on the President's list Summa Cum Laude he accepted an externship at the AAA four diamond awarded Norman's at the Ritz Carlton where he would move through the brigade to Chef de Tournant before accepting a position to work for James Beard nominated chefs James and Julie Petrakis at The Ravenous Pig. Elek excelled at the seasonal and sustainable cuisine and moved up to executive sous chef before moving on to open The Osprey Tavern. Executive Chef Elek Kovacs focuses the cuisine of The Osprey Tavern around seasonality and the rustic flavors imparted by the wood burning Josper oven.
